Course Descriptions:
Beginning art emphasizes the elements and principles of design, color theory, vocabulary and art history. Students are provided a strong foundation in design, drawing, vocabulary and media exploration in a teacher-structured environment. Critical thinking and problem solving is emphasized throughout art 1.
Beginning art standards are designed for students with no or limited K-8 progression in Visual Arts education.- North Carolina Essential Standards
Intermediate art: builds on the student’s technical skills and foundation of knowledge developed in Beginning Art. The study of the elements of art and principles of design, color theory, vocabulary, and art history continues in Art 2 in a less teacher-directed situation. Various art processes, procedures, and theories are presented in a problem-solving manner, which allows for independent choices and personal solutions to problems throughout art 2. Students are required to create, develop and maintain a digital portfolio that will count towards their final exam grade.
Intermediate High School Visual Arts standards are designed for those students who have had a complete K-8 progression in Visual Arts education or who have achieved beginning level high school standards for Visual Arts.- North Carolina Essential Standards
